Jamie Foxx stars as Dave Franco and Jamie Foxx is the star of "Day Shift", a new movie about vampire hunting. The story follows a blue collar father who wants to provide a comfortable life for his daughter. However, his job as a pool cleaner in San Fernando Valley is just a façade for his true source of income: hunting and killing vampires for the International Union of Vampire Hunters.
The premise sounds interesting, but can J.J. Perry deliver the goods?
The movie's opening scene features a bizarre action sequence in which Jamie Foxx shoots at an elderly lady who turns out be a vampire. It then turns into a crazy fight between them, which is so much fun. This movie has a great deal of fun with rag-doll physics, which makes the action scenes pop in a way other Netflix action movies (or blockbusters) don't.
Day Shift is a movie so bad that it's funny. It's so obvious what they were trying to do, and yet they failed so miserably. It is lacking in acting ability, dialogue, and plot. But somehow, I found myself enjoying it. Maybe it's because it was vampire movies I love, or (published here) maybe it is because I just like bad movies. Day Shift was a fun movie. It's not a great flick, but it's fun. And really, that's all I ask from a movie like this.
Day Shift was an interesting movie. On one hand, there is a lot of fun action scenes and some fun characters (the two brothers and Seth), but on the other hand the villain was horrible, a lot of mediocre characters, though I guess that helps the better characters shine even more. There seemed to be missing scenes that were cut. Bud's neighbor behaves like she's a friend, even though she only had three minutes of screen time before the final scene. Bud making prank calls at the gas station while he was working at his job is the best part. It was funny, and it was a great movie. But then the rest of the movie happened, and it wasn't nearly as good. Day Shift is mixed. There are parts that are fantastic and others that are horrible. But if you're looking for a few laughs, you could do worse than this movie.
